Age 24 Survey Responses

Thanks again to everyone who took the time to fill out the monthly survey. We wanted to address some of the feedback we received in the survey. As always, if you have suggestions, let us know in discord and we can put them on the next survey.

Do you have any suggestions relating to our land claim rules?

don’t make it were cs/hq have to touch

We think having all claims touch gives the sense of a growing empire. Without the requirement of land claims touching, the map would just be pure chaos. I could see the argument for a rule allowing clans to make a single claim that isn’t touching as a settlement.

Please consider allowing new players to the server to claim land (any open land) after the first week of the wipe (day 8) then the community will have had a chance to claim like normal and the empty claims will fill up with new players, most new players will quite the server in a week or 2 so there would need to be a special allowance for those clan claims turned solo to be monitored and returned to vacant if the player does not plan to play the rest of the wipe.

If I understand you correctly, you want to prevent new players from claiming land. While I agree new players are the most likely to play for a few days and never return, doing this would alienate new players and could discourage people from coming here and staying here. Afterall, everyone who plays here was a new player at some point.

Have a part of the map that you can build and raid without warning. So if we want both RP and normal play we can get it all in one server. In that “no man land building area” we shouldn’t have to mark it as ours.

It sounds like you are describing our No Man’s Land which we’ve done since day 1. Red areas are free to build but also free to KOS/raid.

Make it so that person can make rules forbthier land that people must follow and if dont land owner can destroy there face

The hard part about writing rules of a server is you need to write them with trolls in mind. While you may make good rules, someone else could abuse this system and use it as an excuse to just kill anyone for no good reason.

remove KOS claims or make them raid-able

Technically KOS claims are raidable, you just need to declare war on them first…

Do you have any suggestions relating to our raid rules?

There should be less restrictions for raiding people on your land. Although, if a person gives written permission for someone to be in their land, it should be a bit harder for them to evict.

Please use the suggestions channel to give a bit more detail. Currently, the only restriction is if they lived there prior, you need to give them notice of the eviction.

Are you happy with current war rules?

I know it may not fit with this server but it would be nice to have rules to protect role play once initiated but I understand that RP is not a strong thing on most if any rust servers, just a RP fan

While we’re not RP forced, we’re fans of RP. What exactly isn’t protected in our current ruleset?

No stealing while your sleeping on ground offline

While Empires is friendlier than most Rust servers, we want there to be some challenge and threat. Also – animals can kill sleepers that are on the ground so even if players couldn’t loot, you could still lose your items.

Larger clans should not be able to bully a smaller one. If one clan has 7 active members and another clan has 5 members, but only 3 active, then the war should be able to be cancelled unless the weaker clan wants to go on.

Good thought but it could be exploited. Would people be interested in something where a larger group can only have 2 (for example) more people than a smaller group to balance it out and prevent small groups from being zerged? Or would that take away the need to make friends and allies?

I think it would be helpful if the about-purge page could also specify when before purge people can put down traps, sams, turrets looking outside the compound, etc.

That is actually in there in the “Preparing for Purge” section.

Are you happy with the Rust Empires staff currently?

Yes, It would be nice to hear staff opinions on rules as well instead of just being a “yes man”

I think this question is coming from a biased point of view. When picking new staff members, we will pick people because they have a different opinion. We have a staff member recently tell us they didn’t expect us to pick them as staff because they aren’t a “yes man”. The other thing to consider, staff may think alike because they see events from a different perspective. You see things from the eyes of a player, we see all sorts of crazy situations and toxic players. Admins may agree with something because we’ve encountered something many times and know the best way to handle it.

Last thing I’ll say about this, you can’t see our private channels. Staff will sometimes debate the best approach to situations, since we want to be professional (as a server can be) we don’t publicly argue with each other. That just looks bad.

What is your least favorite part of Rust Empires?

There are LOTS of rules and LOTS of grey areas within the rules… Also, I noticed lots of people have good ideas but are afraid to speak up because 1) The idea will get shot down 2) No one will consider that idea because 5-6 people against 1 opinion means that purely by numbers the idea doesn’t matter.

You mentioned a few things so I’ll address them one by one. First, to prevent our rules from being 100 pages long, we can’t outline every situation. We try to cover as much as possible while still being accessible to players. If the rules are insane or too long, no one will play here. If we get a bunch of complaints about one rule being grey, we’ll add it to rules. If you see a rule that is continually a problem or grey, post it in suggestions.

For your second point, no one should be afraid to voice their opinion. We have a suggestions channel and a monthly survey because we don’t think our rules are perfect. We’re human and we’re always in the process of tuning the server to be better.  Regarding your ideas being outnumbered, sometimes you will be in the minority and your idea isn’t accepted. That is life. I’m a co-owner and I have ideas that get shot down too. I think it would be poor management of the server if we made changes to appeal to a few that could risk alienating the majority. We have a wide range of players here from PVPers, RPers, and builders…we’ll never be perfect for everyone, but we’ll try to find a place that everyone can agree on.

Make the server whitelisted or something simmlar

While I know some of the trolls that join can be a pain, whitelisting is one of the things we would not do. We previously admined on a large RP server and we saw the server die due to making the change to being a whitelist.

Players that continually break the rules regardless of what behind the scenes actions have been taken.

If you see this, let us know. No one is above the rules. If you have any concerns, feel free to contact the owners directly at our email @ rust.empires.online@gmail.com and we will do an investigation.

Rules are sometimes enforced unevenly. This is an 18+ game — if someone’s name is rather risque, they don’t really need a kick. I’ve seen some people join with a name and get kicked, but they’ll join back 3 or so hours later with a different admin and it will be fine. Like this one guy named Manstroker. Pretty sure he got banned for other reasons.

Something that is important to note, as a player you only have limited information. While you may see us kick a player, you don’t see us send them multiple messages to change it.

The rules regarding war are a pain in the ass. It’s not something I’m interested in doing personally but it doesn’t work very well for clans that have members in v different time zones and with very different work schedules.

Unfortunately this is a no win scenario, either we allow offline wars right away, or we try to have people schedule a time to have an online fight. Both options have their downside. As always, if you have an idea on how to improve it, let us know in the suggestions channel.

If you could change or add one thing to Rust Empires, what would it be?

Different plug ins like the fishing and z levels

We’re always looking for more fun plugins. A few of us search for new plugins a few times a week.

Roaming NPCs (Zombies, Bandits, etc.)

If this is something people want, this is absolutely something we can add.

More quests, maybe.

The sad truth is the quest plugin (and most Rust plugins in general) is pretty limited.

Thats it for this month, thanks again everyone!
