Responses to Age 18 Survey

Thanks to everyone who took the survey this month. As always, we got a ton of good feedback from you guys which helps us decide how to move forward. We posted the results from the survey but we also like to respond to some of the written feedback from the community.

Land Claiming Rules

“If there were no limit to land claims, then I feel like War might be prompted more often, which will make the PvP players happier”

  • In every poll we ask people if they think the number of claims should be changed. It has changed overtime, but generally people think 3-4 claims is good. That said, we got some good feedback and want to provide groups who want more land with a way to get it. This month we plan to add in special claims that can be taken over and they don’t require being connected to the rest of your land and they don’t count towards the three-claim max. Holding this type of spot would have some type of reward.

Suggestions to War Rules

“clan leaders should battle it out in a arena to set terms etc.”

  • Good news, this system already exists in our ruleset. We added Skirmishes a few months ago and unfortunately not many people actually use these. Groups can challenge each other to a war but set all the parameters. Instead of your typical war, you can challenge a team to an arena fight and detail what weapons are legal for the fight. Check out our rules on Skirmishes HERE.

“At the start of the wipe you have one land claim that is special. The clan that claims here first is awarded the title “Ruler of the Empire.” If a clan goes to war with the titled clan and wins, the title is transferred to that clan. At the end of the wipe you could give bleach to the final ruler.”

  • We love this idea. We want to do something like this in April, let’s discuss further in #suggestions to get public input on how this should work

“maybe make the time to war 24hrs so that it is easier to plan… if someone has say 6 hrs of free time to play 12hrs makes it hard to plan and will get them offlined…. also the defenders being able to accept instantly leads to the same issue… war is to cumbersome but if it was just 24hrs regardless that would encourage it…”

  • Good feedback, we can add this to next poll (or maybe talk about in suggestions to get the ball rolling sooner). The reason we specifically called for war feedback this month is we want to work with the community to find a better way to handle it. As for the defender rule, that was added to counter warmongering, that said the Council should negate that need. We think both issues should be discussed and voted on.

“24hr declaration time is a bit long 12hr seems plenty long enough.”

  • Good news, the current wait is 12 hours (not 24). That said, if you read above, that time sounds like it may be changing depending on next poll.

“If two people (mostly neighbors) want to claim the same piece of land let them fight in an arena over the land (which will then hopefully cause tension between the clans and start a war).”

  • Do it. If someone takes a claim you want, declare a skirmish. Tell them to meet you in the arena and winner takes the claim. Check out our rules on Skirmishes HERE.

Are you happy with the Rust Empires staff currently?

“Yes but it their seems to be some inconsistency with rules in the admin staff. But they are very responsive and very good guys/gals.

  • We realize not all of the admins will make the same exact call. A major factor when we wrote the rules was to include as much as possible, but not make it 100 pages long. The longer the rules, the less someone is likely to read them. With that in mind, situations arise that existing in grey areas of the rules. This is where the admin makes a call. If you don’t agree with a call, accept it and then fill out an appeal or contact the Council or Owners. People who become aggressive and attack the staff or server usually get removed. People who accept the situation and calmly contact Council/Owners can find a peaceful levelheaded solution.

What is your least favorite part of Rust Empires?

“I don’t like the concept of cities, as it turns the server more into an rp one. Too much to rp isn’t very positive in my opinion”

  • To be honest, we think cities are one of the most important things about Empires. When we were brainstorming the idea of Empires, it was originally focused even more on cities. While we love feedback and suggestions, this is one that would go against one of the core principles behind the server.

“The lack of wars that I’ve noticed.”

  • We agree. That is why this month we added the extra question about war “We have noticed a lack of wars recently. Do you have any suggestions relating to our war rules that could promote war?” and intend to continue to brainstorm ways to make war more common and less confusing for folks.

“high minicopter cost”

  • That is an easy fix. Let us know what you think would be fair costs for them in #suggestions channel.

“I find the Rust Empires Map tedious to use. It’s probably not possible, but it would be great if the land claim map would just overlay the vanilla Rust map. That would make it much easier to use.”

  • Currently, there are no maps like ours that can be used to overlay the vanilla Rust map. Unfortunately, there are very few options when it comes to Rust maps. An option we explored when making the server (and ended up dropping) was an out of game map. We wish we had more options…

If you could change or add one thing to Rust Empires, what would it be?

“Having a frontier in the four “corners” of the map instead of two (perhaps reduced in size to what they currently are) would be a nice change.”

  • We used to do that and can do that again for sure.

“Have you considered claims in the KOS zone, so that clans could have 1 claim in normal areas but the others in the KOS zone, promote fighting there?”

  • We used to do that with the Warzone and will totally do this again. We would do it this wipe, but since we’re not using a smaller NML, it wouldn’t make sense. Next time we do the larger NML, we can do this again.
