Responding to Prep for Age 14 Survey

The server owners (Wild and Ven) read all of your questions and thoughts and wanted to take the time to address some of them.

Do you have any suggestions relating to our land claim rules:

Pending land claims should be raidable until shown on map, it should be the players fault to lose items in bases pending land claims in discord. or atleast bases incorrectly marked without HQ or CS on sign. players shouldnt have to dig through discord channels and posts to make sure something is claimed or not.

  • This would only favor seasoned community members here and discourage new clans from joining the server. What sets us apart from the rest of Rust is that we are here to develop a community, a haven from the toxicity that permeates the majority of other servers out there. Punishing newcomers and running them off the server for attempting to claim land, would never align with the spirit of our server here.

maybe specify that if another clan put up a claim before you that they will get it and that because of this player should check claims to make sure they don’t waste their time.

  • We have always done land claims according to first come, first serve in regards to whoever has all the requirements and proper postings up first receive the claim – this allows us to adhere to the facts and not be biased in the land claiming process. The land claim channel is public so anyone can view it and see what has been posted.

I’m personally a solo player (a lack of social skills, and i don’t like very many people) As a solo player i have a rough time building anywhere other than frontiers which gets really crowded real quick. I would like to be able to claim more than just a rp claim. Maybe give solo players the ability to claim 1 smaller space on the map. Like make many small claims all over the map designed specifically for solos.

  • Special event week does not have solo claims so that you have the opportunity to get to know others. Our regular 3 week periods have RP solo claims. Keep an eye out for the light purple lands that will be marked on the map, and make sure to review the Land Claiming rules for RP solo claims. Reach out if you have any questions 🙂

We have received feedback that war can be a confusing part of the rules. Do you have any suggestions for war rules or alternate ideas on how war should work:

A moderator or admin should be designated a war moderator to ensure proper rules are followed regarding the declaration and execution of war

  • All of the staff are volunteers and no one person is available 24/7 to be the sole individual responsible for monitoring war decs and the actual wars. Further, we have war decs and wars that occur throughout all the time zones so even if one person on the staff was interested in spearheading this, it wouldn’t be feasible due to the limitations of real life and need to sleep, eat, etc.

Remove the needless paperwork and rules on weapons. Clan leaders can declare war, and war is just that, no obsessive rules just clan fight and raid each other. Allies will be declared before and thats it. Admins seem to want to micro manage a war.

  • To be clear, the admins are not micromanaging any war – the admins are adhering to reinforcing the rules that are set on this server. Also, there are no rules on weapons for single claim or all out wars  unless you are referring to skirmishes that allow for two clans to specify how they intend to fight each other and with what resources and weapons. Also to give more insight into why there are rules and timers and such on this server, if you could declare war and immediately fight and raid whoever, what would be the point of claiming land or what would the point of even being on this server be? It would be just a regular server where you could get allies and raid everyone off the server leaving a boring husk of nothingness, and leaving individuals filled with bitterness at just another toxic experience.

I think that they could be explained in a more precise way. There are too many technicalities that could just be implemented into the rules or removed entirely.

  • If you have suggestions on rules, please feel free to share. Keep in mind that we have people asking for both more precise rules, but also have other community members asking to remove all rules or be more flexible allowing for more freedoms. We cannot cover every single potential situation that occur or else the rules would return to even being longer than what they currently are.

Should be 12 hours after initial proposal that the war starts when the opposing team has agreed to the war, not immediately. Just want it to seem more consistent.

  • Every situation we’ve had with both sides agreeing to war, they have wanted to start right away. As for the removal of war timer in situations where the defending clan accepts the war, this adds a risk to those who declare war. War should involve risk and not be something that you could sleep through. Sometimes this works out in favor of the defending clan who accepted the war, sometimes it hasn’t. There are no guarantees once a clan posts a war dec.

What is your favorite part of Rust Empires:

“Staff” and “community”

  • Thank you for sharing your appreciation for the hard work by all of our volunteer staff here. This is a volunteer project of love, and staff undergo a lot of abuse from rule breakers so we are very grateful to have the support from our community in these monthly surveys. And kudos to our community members who embed the spirit of our server through your words and actions, making this a fantastic place to be <3

What is your least favorite part of Rust Empires:

Not being able to store loot in a base that isn’t HQ.

  • Forcing individuals to store loot solely in the HQ building is not in the rules. The rule is that loot has to be on clan land.

The admins cannot play with us… So many players were unhappy that caused trouble when the admins were able to play. This eventually caused some admins to move on as they also love to play games instead of just keeping order.

  • Over a year ago when we started, the admins could play on their main admin accounts, but players can be quick to assume cheating (by players or staff) despite that they could request server owners to investigate any concerns. Our staff have worked hard to create a positive atmosphere and community here. We appreciate how you and the others who reach in similar vein, consider staff as people as well. Staff are all volunteers (including server owners) so we understand when there is a need to play other games / take a break.

The admins, though most the time responsive, can sometimes be slow.

  • All of our staff are volunteers and sacrifice real life time to assist the community – but just like with real life situations, they cannot attend to needs always instantaneously.  As we’ve mentioned before, the staff receive PMs in-game, DMs in Discord, messages in Steam, and modmail on the subreddit that they are actively addressing or engaged in responding to. If you are trying to reach one staff member, be aware that asking in-game or PMing in-game can get lost quickly when the staff are working so hard. Further, we implemented the #questions channel in Discord so that players can reach the team as a whole with asking questions. And if you are in game or in Discord, you will frequently see the green colored and purple colored names responding to individuals with questions in the general chat. The most common remark once a person joins the staff team is “I didn’t realize how much work everyone does”, and it is freaking true. The staff are all volunteers and contribute a tremendous amount of time in and out of game not only answering questions and supporting community members, but also working diligently to investigate and address issues. So again, kudos to the whole staff team who work their butts off helping everyone out.

If you could change or add one thing to Rust Empires, what would it be:

Rideable horses ♡

  • We have this plugin, but due to changes made by FacePunch, the plugin is broken. The plugin dev has not fixed it yet. We also miss riding horses (and riding an occasional chicken).

Only 1 teleporter to the frontier.

  • That was for the special event – special events are more challenging to navigate the land and are a bit more immersive in a story/theme vs the main 3 week period. Make sure to explore the map and Central Station / Undertown during the main 3 week period as official cities and multiple Frontier Zones are connected at a central hub.

Mandatory IN character at ALL times.

  • Our server is RP friendly, not forced. We do encourage our community members to be pioneers in that regard – go forth and share your creative content whether it is through art that you post; being a traveler and telling your stories at the different cities; making videos; creating hubs of entertainment and drawing in crowds; etc. Inspire others and pave the way using your own creativity.

More Friends.

  • We highly recommend spending time in cities and heading to any community events too. Reach out in the Discord and in game to chat with peeps. We have a great community and if you take the chance to start getting to know others, you can really build some good friendships. If you feel up for it, you can work towards making events to draw others to you as well – setting up an arena, doing a talent show, etc. Post your event ahead of time in #community-announcements and advertise it in game too. It can be hard to open up to others, but take a chance here 🙂

Add RP claims close to frontier zones AND add random RP claim areas too! Have like 3-4 claims in a chunk in all biomes so there’s a variety of RP claim areas.

  • We did this for Age 13 and it did really well with almost all of the RP claims around Frontier and in all of the biomes claimed. Glad to see that there is support for us to continue having the RP claims in all the biomes and around Frontier again going into Age 14!
