New Server Structure

Hey, peeps, as some of you have likely noticed there have been rules/info posted about FTP admins and Admin Council from the past few weeks.

 

Today, we are officially announcing the restructuring of the staff team!

 

Currently, the owners handle map drawing, plugins, ban appeals, and many more things. By adding these new ranks and sharing some of these responsibilities, it allows the server owners to take a step back. We have been running the server for a year with a steadily increasing amount of work on our plate so we are grateful to our team members who want to help with taking on some additional work. Hopefully if there is time from distributing some of our tasks, we could start posting more on the Rust Empires’ Youtube page; address other items that need attention for the server;  and also start to think about other games we could apply the Empires’ ruleset to.

 

TLDR, the server owners will be taking a step back from the daily server work and so we have the following information on the restructuring of our team:

Owners

  • Manage server backend and plugins.
  • Update and config any required files for server wipes.
  • Draw initial map for map wipes.
  • Intervene in admin council if there are concerns or if the voting is not considering larger scale/impact/forward thinking.
  • Manages website, Reddit, and Patreon.
  • Trains new staff members on protocols of server/provides ongoing training for senior staff.
  • Respond and address any staff abuse claims.

 

FTP Admin (New role)

  • Assists with server backend and plugins.
  • Contributes to website and content management for Rust Empires.
  • Uploads updated maps from admin council.
  • Includes partaking in all admin council responsibilities (voting, ban appeals, etc. – see below).

 

Admin Council (New role)

Members that join the council take on more responsibility, it isn’t just a tag for prestige. Council members have to vote on ban appeals and server issues. If a council member becomes inactive and does not contribute towards votes and supporting the server, they will have their rank removed to be fair to the other staff and community. We expect the involved members of the council to change over time as people become more or less active based on their real life responsibilities and in/out of game interests as this role will be requiring additional responsibilities in-game and out of game (including Discord, ban appeals, investigations, etc.).

 

Server owners and FTP Admins will also participate in these council votes. If the server owners feel the spirit of the server isn’t being upheld or that the voting is not considering larger scale/impact/forward thinking, owners will intervene on votes. This should be a rarity if everything is working correctly.

 

Council responsibilities:

  • Investigate and vote on ban appeals and server issues.
  • Respond to ban appeals.
  • Update map each night.
  • Handle server wipes for monthly FacePunch wipe and special event weeks.
  • Do not manage other admins – if there are any concerns or reports of staff abuse, report concerns/findings to server owners immediately.

 

Admins/Moderators

The roles of admin and moderator won’t change. They will continue to be the backbone of this server and be enforcers of the rules that separates us from most other Rust servers. See the posted rule link in Official Rules for more details on these staff roles.

 

Community Leader (New role)

Community leader is a rank we are adding to our team. Community leaders will have additional opportunities to work closer with our current mods and admins allowing us to more intimately know these individuals who are striving to help the server. From working in this role, a community leader may become a moderator for our community based upon how he/she handles this role with the community and with the rest of our team.

 

Keep in mind that community leaders will NOT have access to kick/jail like mods, or have any kind of investigative tools of the admins. They will support the community by being active in Discord and in game to assist with situations and assist with questions while promoting the spirit of the server with their engagements with others.
